Individual Therapy/Family Sessions

Individual Therapy is an opportunity to meet with a therapist one-on-one within a safe and confidential environment to examine issues within the privacy of a psychotherapeutic session. Individual psychotherapy sessions typically last between 45 and 60 minutes. The frequency and duration of therapy will depend largely on your needs, treatment goals, and progress. We may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the unique needs and personal goals for therapy. Individual counseling provides “therapeutic intimacy” to discuss drug and alcohol use, relationship issues, childhood issues, or problems surfacing due to mental health related disorders. Many individuals with substance use and alcohol use disorders also have co-occurring mental health disorders, i.e. anxiety, trauma, depression, personality disorders, ADD/ADHD, that can be addressed in individual counseling sessions to help prevent relapse. Treatment modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Training, and Motivational Interviewing.

Addiction and co-occurring disorders have a strong impact in the family system. Family sessions are very important for those affected by Substance Use Disorders to help rebuild trust, healthy communication, and understanding of the process of recovery. Many times family members/significant support, do not know how to help and support their loved ones in active addiction or in early recovery. Family sessions allow for healthy communication of these issues so that both parties have the tools they need for their personal recovery. Individual Therapy/Family Sessions are covered under most insurance plans. Clients are typically only responsible for their co-pay.

MLADC Evaluations are sometimes requested by the court or probation office to help assist an individual in getting the proper level of care that they require to satisfy their legal obligations. MLADC evaluations can also be helpful for an individual who is awaiting a hearing for a substance or alcohol related charge, and would like to be proactive in their treatment. Also, evaluations can be utilized by individuals or families that are seeking more information about their relationship with drugs and alcohol to understand if there is an Alcohol Use Disorder or Substance related Disorder present. Individuals may also seek to recognize any co-occurring disorders that may be currently undiagnosed. All evaluations include and assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. A typical Assessment is 90-120 minutes in length in a face-to-face interview. A written evaluation is provided within 1 week and will be submitted to the requesting party via fax or mail with the clients consent to release information. The fee for MLADC is $400 and is due at the time of the interview. Unfortunately, due to contractual limitations, insurance companies do not reimburse for this service.

Infra-slow Fluctuation Neurofeedback sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length. Initial Session will be 1 hour so that the client and practitioner will be able to discuss the client's goals for treatment. All sessions are 30 minutes in length, with remaining time devoted to discussion of post session feedback, equipment setup, and cleaning. Electrical leads with be placed on the client's scalp which read the electrical activity of the brain, known as electroencephlograpy (EEG). This information is sent to a computer program which then responds with certain frequencies and tones that act as a mirror for your brain. This communication helps "train" the brain to operate at its most efficient state. As a result, the central nervous system (CNS) can switch from a sympathetic - fight or flight state, to a parasympathetic- calm, rest, relaxed state. Through continued training the brain becomes conditioned to be able to better switch between the two states. This is very helpful for issues related to emotional dysregulation, stress and anxiety, impulsivity, and sleep regulation. This treatment is also effective in treating migraines. Neurofeedback is typically not covered by insurance plans. The fee for this service is $80 per session. Weekly sessions are recommended for maximum benefit. The total number of sessions will depend on the individual's needs and response to treatment, typically 10-20 sessions are indicated.

After an evaluation from an IDCMP you may require additional aftercare sessions in order to satisfy the state and become eligible to renew your license. Sessions are weekly and are typically 50 minutes in length. I am a registered impaired driver service provider for the state of NH. All session notes are entered into the WITS software for the state and the IDCMP (i.e. southeastern NH Services, Amethyst, etc.) If you are interested in this service please contact us for further information. A release will need to be signed and submitted to the IDCMP with this provider's information so that a referral can be created in the state's software. As soon as the referral has been created, you can set up an appointment. This process can be hard to understand, so if you require any assistance, I will be happy to speak with you further. All client's are required to remain abstinent from the use of alcohol during treatment. Insurance will cover these sessions if the client meets medical necessity criteria.
